JetBlue Airways announced on Monday that it will be adding several new routes and increasing frequencies on several existing routes, thanks to securing extra slots from the FAA in December for slot-controlled airports Washington-Reagan National and New York-LaGuardia.

The first of the announcements JetBlue made was that it will be doubling the number of frequencies between LaGuardia Airport and Reagan National Airport from eight daily flights to sixteen.

“By seizing the opportunity to invest in the rare slot pairs made available in our hometown of New York City and in our nation’s capital, JetBlue is comfortably poised for organic growth,” said JetBlue’s Vice President of Network Planning and Partnerships, Scott Laurence in a release.

In addition to the increased frequency from Reagan National to LaGuardia, JetBlue will be adding three additional daily flights to Boston, two to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, as well as launching a daily flight to Tampa from the nation’s capital.  All new flights will begin June 11.

LaGuardia Airport will also receive additional service to several Florida cities beginning June 11.  The airline will launch one daily flight to each, Fort Myers and Sarasota/Bradenton, plus twice daily service to Tampa.  The airline will also beef up its schedule to other Florida cities already receiving LaGuardia service with an additional daily frequency to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, and Orlando receiving two additional daily frequencies.

Amongst the expansions in New York and Washington D.C., JetBlue also announced its 45th destination.  JetBlue will begin operating seasonal flights to Nantucket from its Boston hub beginning May 17.  Flights will operate daily through September 14.

“We’re making New Englanders’ summer travel to Nantucket even easier with this daily trip to the island,” said John Checketts, director of route planning in the release.  “Our continued growth in Boston is focused on where our customers tell us they want to fly!  We’re excited to expand our award-winning offerings in the state.”
